Skinny Chickens and Grocery Shopping

We are still laughing at the fresh chickens Tiffany ordered at the beginning of this week! As she was talking with the man we order meat from he kept trying to explain the amount of grams per chicken available but as usual our communication skills lack so in the end she ordered 3 large fresh whole chickens for Eric to smoke🤭 We received 4 small scrawny dry šŸ“ā€™s.

And No, the chicks were not over cooked!?

And tough…Wow! From the three chickens we were able to pull off only about 1 1/2 cups of meat.

Tiffany called them Pole Dancing Chickens, (hahaha) due to unusually long thin legs and the odd position at the end of their smoking session. I guess we won’t be trying that again anytime soon. Live and Learn!

This was so odd to us because we can get the most delicious boneless skinless chicken breasts from the grocery store in vacuum packed packaging-we have noticed there is not a lot of choices for the pieces you can get. Anything with bone in is skinny. And If you don’t get orders in early in the day, the good stuff is out of stock.

So the groceries are ordered online because normally we don’t have our driver available for a quick grocery run. We order online and it’s to our door within 10-12 minutes. It comes to you by way of a guy on a scooter and usually your items are in ripped wet thin paper bags or very thin muslin sacks. Most every time the stuff has dust or dirt all over from a spill off the scooter or just too much for the delivery man to carry in said thin wet bags. We just laugh šŸ˜† cause sometimes when we answer the door the guy is pulling items from all his pockets and wherever else things can be stashed. Higher end deliveries come in thin boxes or a basket that you have to empty inside your door and then give back the container.

The delivery people are always very gracious and helpful-they do a good job. I have not seen a single woman as delivery person yet. Not proper, I presume?

There is generally zero beef to be had, as I may have mentioned previously-but Buffalo 🦬 is readily available. So yeah, assume there is Buff cheese, milk etc. 😳 It’s fine, just different than we, and you(I’m sure) are used too. We have had Lamb Chops a few times, Yum-very good.

Vegetables and fruits are a whole other story for another day!

The vast differences in eating/dining has been an interesting challenge we were not entirely aware of upon arrival, but we are learning. It’s not just the spices…

Take care and stay tuned,

Deb
